‘She’s a Whale’: A Plus-Sized Bride Was Mocked at a Boutique. She Left With a $10,000 Dress
It allegedly took place at a plus-sized wedding boutique that ironically made fun of plus-sized people.

All brides deserve to feel beautiful on their special day. But a TikTok influencer (@spiceoflifevlogs) alleged that, while working in the bridal industry, the wedding dress boutique she worked at mocked plus-sized brides. Despite the snide remarks, she recalled how one bride walked out with one of the most expensive dresses in the store.
“I used to work at a plus-sized bridal boutique, and they would make fun of the plus-sized brides that would come in,” she told TikTok. She used to work as a consultant in the boutique, which she chose not to name.
One day, she said, an extremely plus-sized client had come in. Although the boutique supposedly had a large selection, the bride was a size 28. The former consultant noted that it was difficult to find dresses at that size.
“I know, as her consultant, okay, there’s only going to be so many dresses that I can have her try on,” she recalled. As the bride was walking out of the car, she alleged that the owners of the store were already making fun of how big the bride was. She was sitting at the front desk, and her boss allegedly commented on the bride’s appearance.
“Holy [expletive], she’s a whale. I’m so glad I’m not having to work with her,” the boss supposedly said. A plus-sized woman in Florida couldn’t even buy ice cream in peace after a bunch of girls threw shady remarks her way. It seems that plus-sized women aren’t spared from scrutiny even during wedding dress shopping either.
A plus-sized budget
The ex-consultant was shocked by the statement, but nevertheless, she welcomed the bride in the boutique and accommodated her as planned. The bride told her that she planned to have a “grand, fairytale-esque wedding.”
But before trying clothes on, the bride also informed the consultant that she has health issues, including hyperhidrosis, which caused her to profusely sweat. Because she had a slew of health problems, she also said she needed to take frequent breaks. The consultant reassured the bride that it was alright to take breaks. As an immunocompromised person, she sympathized with the bride herself.
She started pulling out dresses for the bride to try, but she also thought about a custom gown designed by one of the seamstresses for a runway show. It was in the bride’s size, but it was $2,000 above her budget.
“I don’t want to pull it if you don’t want me to,” she told the bride. But the bride was curious about the dress, wanting to see it anyway. She told the consultant she had her fiancé’s card, so there was nothing to worry about. The dress turned out to be the bride’s dream dress, and she took it home with her.
“It was $10,000. It was genuinely the most expensive dress we had in the entire store, which is why I didn’t want to pull it because it was two grand over her budget,” the consultant stated. Even after buying such a grand dress, the consultant said that the bride even tipped her $200.
Still a good experience
“To this day, I’m incredibly grateful for her, and I hope her wedding was amazing,” she said. Not long after, the consultant was fired. She was allegedly let go after she requested to adjust her work schedule for an emergency doctor’s appointment. Because of this, she was unable to see her client’s final fitting.
After the bride left, the consultant alleged that the store owners and other consultants kept talking smack about the bride. One of them also supposedly said that they were relieved to get money out of the client, or it wouldn’t have been “worth it.” Despite the unnecessary side comments, it seems that the bride had a pleasant wedding dress shopping experience. At least, it was better than what this bride experienced with a famous New York City designer.
