‘I can’t return them’: Woman orders Jimmy Choo shoes from The RealReal. Then she notices something ‘off’

Ordering clothing online is always a coin toss. The odds are even greater if you’re adding shoes into the cart. Sometimes these errors are so miniscule that one woman had to double check her The RealReal Jimmy Choo heels twice.

What Is The RealReal?

Since 2011, The RealReal has curated a marketplace for reselling luxury goods. Unlike donations, the company relies on consignments from customers for its merchandise. Subsequently, it authenticates them and resells the secondhand items at a price point they have chosen on their behalf. All of this in an effort to curb waste and give these items a new home at a more affordable price. 

What Was The Problem with These Jimmy Choo Shoes?

As she sits in her room, Los Angeles-based TikTok creator Paige (@paigeinthemachine) spills the tea on how The RealReal did her “dead wrong.”

“So, my order from The RealReal comes today,” she says, pulling out a pair of her “new” vintage Jimmy Choo London high heel sandals. “But something seems a little weird.”

Upon closer examination, she spots what she believes is the tiniest size discrepancy between them: “One of them seems a little bigger than the other. Am I crazy?” 

When the content creator flips both shoes over, one of them is a size 39 ½, and the other is 40 ½. As it turns out, her observation is correct, much to her confusion.

“How did someone even acquire a pair of the exact same shoes in two different sizes?” Paige asks. “And why was I then sold them and I can’t return them? Am I supposed to flop around all asymmetrical in my asymmetrical Jimmy Choos?” 

“I don’t understand,” she concludes.

Meanwhile, she continues her rant in the caption, writing, “If you see me walking around in my asymmetrical [Jimmy Choos] MIND UR BUISNESSSSS but fr which baddie had two different sized feet?”

Viewers Demand A Refund

Paige’s video racked up over 82,000 views, with many disregarding any possible “final sale” stipulation and urging her to find a way to receive her money back.

“Nope. I’d dispute that charge so quick!” one viewer commented.

“If they messed up, then they are required to give you a refund. No questions asked,” a second remarked.

“Do a charge back on your credit card since the items not as described. You definitely have a case,” a third suggested.

Like Paige, others were in the exact same shoes as her.

“lol I just returned a pair of valentinos to trr that had one shoe size 37.5 and the other 38.5,” one commenter shared.

“I got two of the wrong size from them last week. That was annoying but this is crazier for sure,” a second recalled.

Did The RealReal Resolve This?

During an interview with The Mary Sue, Paige revealed she’s been a customer for some time. While searching for a specific pair of shoes, she stumbled across the ones in the video.

“I liked the shoes because I was looking for a pair of black heels with gold hardware,” she shared via TikTok direct message. “I really liked them when I got them i thought they were superrr cute.”

Subsequently, her clip caught The RealReal’s attention and slid into her DMs.

“They DMed me on TikTok and asked how they could help and followed up with customer service,” she said. “I got a full refund.”

Despite the incident, the content creator believes she will keep shopping at the retailer.

“I probably will shop on The RealReal again because they have such good stuff,” Paige said. “I just wish they had a human reviewing every listing so this doesn’t happen again.”

Wait, Is This Common?

Believe it or not, this is more common than you think. The human body itself (both internally and externally) is naturally asymmetrical regardless of how similar each side appears. One eye may be slightly bigger or an arm marginally longer and feet are no different. Foot and ankle specialist Dr. Bob Baravarian shared on his blog how 60% of the U.S. population has a foot that is longer or wider than the other.  

While there isn’t a concrete explanation for this, there is a theory. The podiatrist states this possibility might have to do with the non-dominant foot receiving more exercise (like walking) than the dominant one. Therefore, those with a dominant right side most likely have a larger and stronger left foot, and vice versa.
