LA Woman Endures 45-Minute Microplastics Monologue on a Nightmare First Date, Then Gets Ignored for 2 Hours on the Third One: ‘I Really Tried’
We hope she finds the man of her dreams soon.

Conventionally, you should give a new match two or three dates before writing them off. Unless, of course, date number one is already a complete train wreck. LA creator Genevieve Parisi (@genevieveparisi) learned that the hard way after granting a nightmare first date two more chances.
In a candid TikTok storytime sitting at over 15,000 views, Parisi pulled back the curtain on her latest dating misadventure. She went in hoping for an intellectually engaging match. Instead, she got locked into an exhausting, one-sided monologue tour.
By the third date, she hadn’t found a connection. Only an alleged three-part masterclass in conversational narcissism that fittingly reached its grand finale at a sports bar.
Parisi suffered through a microplastics lecture on a nightmare first date
In the video, Parisi explained that her date was smart and liked to research random topics. At the same time, she alleged that he possessed zero conversational balance. On their very first date, she claimed that he didn’t ask about her interests or engaged in mutual banter. Instead, he allegedly spent 45 straight minutes monologuing about microplastics.
“He’s smart, I’ll give that to him… But, like, on a first date, microplastics for 45 minutes?” Parisi questioned in her video recap. Despite the initial red flags, Parisi decided to extend grace and give him another shot.
But by date three, the monologue topics only got weirder. During the second date, he reportedly pulled out his phone to search and explain the most popular Halloween costumes for every single year starting from 1950. Parisi stressed on the absurdity of that by highlighting that the guy is 28 years old and was not alive during most of his research timeline.
A sports bar outing left Parisi completely frozen out for two hours
The final straw occurred during their third date when the guy’s plans with friends fell through. He then invited Parisi to join them at a sports bar. Curious to see if he acted the same way around his group, she agreed. However, the dynamic didn’t change.
The guy allegedly dominated the conversation with work talk for so long that one of his friends finally stepped in, saying, “Okay, enough about work. Genevieve, tell us about yourself.”
But just as she was about to speak, her date cut in to announce that his friend recognized her from her appearance on The Bachelor. The conversation immediately shifted back to him, leaving Parisi sitting in complete silence for roughly two hours. To top it off, as his friends left, he thanked her for “being so patient” while he caught up with them.
Why do some people completely dominate conversations on dates?
Sitting across from someone who views a date as a captive audience rather than a two-way dialogue is a common complaint in the modern dating landscape. Such conversational steamrolling often stems from self-absorption or a lack of emotional intelligence regarding non-verbal cues.
When a person fails to ask basic return questions like “What about you?”, it signals a fundamental lack of curiosity about their partner. While sharing knowledge can be charming, holding someone hostage to a 45-minute lecture on microplastics or Halloween history would turn a romantic outing into an unwanted lecture hall experience.
Parisi should’ve closed the book on her match after the nightmare first date itself
Reflecting on the experience, Parisi claimed, “I really tried.” She also said that a few years ago, she wouldn’t have even agreed to a second date after such a nightmare first date. But while she said gave it her best effort, she finally realized that the guy was not one for her. “He’s a good guy… But just not my person, you know?” she concluded, officially calling it quits.
For anyone confused, a date should be a conversation, not a podcast recording. But Parisi claimed that “out of 100%,” she spoke “maybe 5% of the time, on all three dates.” So, it was a disappointment, according to her. But we hope both of them can go on and find people who’d match their energies without feeling overlooked.
