‘They are a trash company’: Ohio couple’s house burns down due to a Bath & Body Works wallflower issue. They can’t believe the company’s response

A family says their home burned down due to an issue with a Bath & Body Works wallflower. Now they’re seeking answers. 

Pam Baker (@pambaker_), an Ohio-based content creator, posted a video that received more than 184,000 views. In it, she called for Bath & Body Works to “do what’s right, fix [the wallflower plug-in] product and pay for the damages that [the] company caused.”

The content creator said her parents had a wallflower plug-in inside an outlet, which caused a fire. Their home ended up burning down, and both of her parents had to go to the hospital due to smoke inhalation. 

Now, the content creator says that Bath & Body Works is dodging accountability. 

What did Baker’s family experience?

Baker said a known mechanical issue started the fire in her parents’ home.

“It went up in flames due to a wallflower from Bath & Body Works. They have known that their wallflowers have a missing mechanism in them since 2017 when these fires started happening,” Baker said. “ Their wallflowers get so hot that literally you’ll watch smoke come out of them and then catch on fire.”

Baker added that after the fire erupted in the home, her parents reached out to Bath & Body Works. The company offered them $500 in compensation. 

Baker said this wasn’t enough considering the damages her family accrued.

“ $500 ain’t gonna cover [expletive]. It’s… just not gonna happen,” Baker said. “So I’m coming here so that we can put it out there that they are a trash company, that they sell faulty products… They brush it under the rug.” 

What’s Up With This Bath & Body Works Wallflower?

While it’s unclear whether Baker is citing the same reports, there are articles dating back to 2017 regarding wallflower-related fires. 

In 2017, a woman from Florida witnessed a wallflower plug-in start a small fire. Lori White, a woman from Spring Hill, said sparks started flying out of her wall plug-in, according to Tampa Bay 28. Bath & Body Works responded by offering her a refund on her Wallflower products. The company also offered to have an electrician come check out her wall outlet.  

Every Bath & Body Works Wallflower plug-in is supposed to have a working mechanism to automatically shut off in case the device overheats. Baker said that in her family’s case, the mechanism didn’t work and the product never shut off. Despite her claim that this is a widespread problem, there aren’t a massive number of consumer reports about a similar defect. 

Some Wallflowers home fragrance refills have been reported to contain flammable materials and vapors, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they start fires. For Bath & Body Works Home Fragrance Refill, “Apple Weather,” for instance, a Safety Data Sheet says that its container may “burst violently or explode when heated, due to excessive pressure build-up.” 

It’s important to note that other factors—such as home wiring—may still factor in any subsequent outcome to the family’s situation. Once a wallflower that has flammable materials is exposed to a greater flame, it may “explode” or “burst,” as noted by the Safety Data Sheet. 

However, some TikTok users have reported the wall plug-ins smoking and removing the paint from overhead shelves. Across social media, there are a litany of reports that the wall plug-ins have allegedly led to house fires. Other consumers report that the devices leak, which can be a potential fire hazard.

People Stay Away From It

Multiple viewers said they stopped using Bath & Body Works products a long time ago. Some individuals cited concerns over the fragrance refills having carcinogens as a primary reason why they stopped using them.

“I always feel like I’m the only person who refuses to buy anything from that store. It’s all toxic,” one viewer said. 

Another commenter said, “You guys, wallflowers kill your pets. It’s been known to stay away from them. Any of those wall air things that are like bath and body works wallflowers.”

Other TikTok users told Baker to seek legal counsel.

“Coming to tt instead of filing a lawsuit is very weird,” one viewer said. 

Another viewer said, “hello why haven’t you called a lawyer.”
