Jack Antonoff and Margaret Qualley’s Split: What We Actually Know After the Breakup

When news broke that Jack Antonoff and Margaret Qualley had separated, the headlines quickly focused on the clues that appeared to surround the split. From Antonoff attending Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding celebrations without Qualley to changes on Qualley’s Instagram, fans began piecing together their own theories about what happened behind the scenes.
But several days after the initial reports, a clearer picture has started to form. While sources have offered insight into the couple’s relationship, both sides have pushed back against some of the speculation surrounding their separation.
Here is what we know about Antonoff and Qualley’s split – and what remains speculation.
Jack Antonoff and Margaret Qualley’s Separation Was First Confirmed on July 8
PEOPLE first reported on July 8 that Antonoff, 42, and Qualley, 31, had separated just weeks before their third wedding anniversary.
According to sources who spoke with the outlet, the couple’s relationship had been “rocky,” though another insider said they were still “figuring things out.” Neither Antonoff nor Qualley had publicly announced the separation or shared details about what led to the decision.

At the time, the couple was also navigating busy professional schedules. Antonoff was in the middle of his Bleachers Forever tour, while Qualley was preparing for her upcoming horror film, Possession.
The report came shortly after fans noticed that Antonoff attended Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s July 3 wedding celebration without Qualley. Instead, the musician attended alongside his sister, fashion designer Rachel Antonoff.
Because Swift and Antonoff have a longtime friendship and creative partnership (and because Swift attended Antonoff and Qualley’s 2023 wedding), Qualley’s absence quickly became a topic of discussion online. However, her absence alone did not confirm the reason behind their separation.
Fans Spotted Changes Before Reports Confirmed the Separation
Before PEOPLE confirmed Antonoff and Qualley’s separation, fans had already started noticing small changes that appeared to suggest something had shifted in the couple’s relationship.
One of the biggest points of discussion came from Qualley’s Instagram activity. Fans noticed Qualley had removed several wedding photos featuring Antonoff from her Instagram profile, though she later restored some of the posts. She also changed her Instagram handle from @isimostar (a name inspired by Antonoff’s Bleachers song “Isimo”) back to a variation of her legal name, Sarah Margaret Qualley.

Neither move came with an explanation from Qualley, but both quickly became part of the online speculation surrounding the couple’s relationship.
Fans also pointed to the couple’s limited public appearances in the months leading up to the separation. Antonoff and Qualley made their last public appearance together at the 2026 Grammy Awards in February. Although they reportedly arrived together and appeared comfortable, they did not pose together on the red carpet, which some fans later viewed as another sign that things had changed.
However, social media activity and public appearances only offer a glimpse into a celebrity’s personal life. While these moments contributed to growing speculation, they did not provide confirmation about what was happening privately between Antonoff and Qualley.
Margaret Qualley’s Team Denied Infidelity Rumors
As breakup speculation intensified, some online discussions began focusing on rumors of possible trust issues or infidelity. Qualley’s representative later addressed those claims in a statement shared with PEOPLE on July 10, saying that those narratives were inaccurate.
In the statement, Qualley’s representative said the “narratives running in the press about Margaret and Jack are categorically untrue.” “There are no trust issues. There was no infidelity or anything outside of respect and partnership in this relationship.”
The statement continued that the couple still had “deep love and care” for one another and asked for privacy, emphasizing that outside sources did not have a full understanding of their marriage.
A source also told PEOPLE that the two remained on good terms, saying they “love each other deeply” and were handling the separation with “kindness and unity.”
Their Relationship Once Appeared Like a Hollywood Love Story
The pair first sparked romance rumors in 2021 when they stepped out together in New York City. They made their relationship public in 2022 and announced their engagement just months later. In August 2023, they exchanged vows in New Jersey. The intimate but star-studded ceremony included several famous guests, including Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey, Zoë Kravitz, and Channing Tatum.

In interviews around that time, both Antonoff and Qualley spoke openly about how strongly they felt about one another. Before their wedding, Qualley told Harper’s Bazaar that she was excited to build a home and a life with Antonoff after years of focusing primarily on her acting career.
“I am so happy that I found my person,” she said. “And it’s real. It’s amazing. It’s the best feeling in the world.”
She also described feeling eager to share everyday life with him, saying at the time that she “just want[ed] to do everything with Jack.”

AMY TROOST
Antonoff also described their connection as something he recognized immediately. During a 2025 appearance on The Howard Stern Show, he said he knew he wanted to marry Qualley the moment they met. He described the feeling as something that changed how he imagined his future.
Their romance even found its way into Antonoff’s creative work. Qualley inspired Lana Del Rey’s song “Margaret,” which featured Bleachers, and Bleachers later released “dirty wedding dress,” a track that drew from the couple’s August 2023 wedding.
Those public expressions of love are part of why the separation attracted so much interest. While fans saw a couple who appeared deeply committed to one another, their split also showed how much of a celebrity relationship exists away from the public eye.
New Reports Point to Differences in Lifestyle and Personality
While neither Antonoff nor Qualley has publicly explained why they separated, a newer report from PEOPLE on July 14 offered additional claims from an anonymous source.
According to the source, differences in personality and lifestyle may have contributed to the split. The insider described Qualley as having a more optimistic and outgoing personality, while Antonoff was characterized as more serious.
The source also claimed that their demanding careers created challenges, was Antonoff was frequently working or traveling, and Qualley was focused on her acting projects.
However, these details remain based on anonymous sources rather than statements from either Antonoff or Qualley.
For Now, The Details Behind Their Separation Remain Private
Nearly a week after the first reports of their separation, the biggest takeaway is that the public still only has a limited view of what happened between Antonoff and Qualley.
The confirmed details are simple: Antonoff and Qualley have separated after nearly three years of marriage. Neither has publicly shared the personal reasons behind the decision. Anonymous sources have offered different perspectives on what may have contributed, from busy careers to personality differences. However, those claims remain outside reports rather than statements from the couple themselves.

What has become clear is that Antonoff and Qualley’s split did not involve the type of public scandal that often surrounds celebrity breakups. Qualley’s representative pushed back against rumors of infidelity and trust issues. The statement emphasized that their relationship was built on “respect and partnership.”
Ultimately, the story that has unfolded over the past week is less about uncovering a hidden reason behind the breakup. Instead, it shows the limits of what fans can know about a private relationship. Antonoff and Qualley once spoke openly about their love and future together. Now, they appear to be navigating their next chapter away from the spotlight.
