Woman Went Thrifting at Goodwill. An Older Woman Approached and Grabbed Her Purse: ‘Okay, That Will Be $5,000.’

Thrifting can get competitively out of hand. There are shoppers who would hide parts of their desired items in the nooks and crannies of Goodwill so they could come back and buy them at a later date. But nothing beats Nicole’s (@nicole_yank0) thrifting experience with an older lady at Goodwill.

She started recording a TikTok of what happened after her trip at Goodwill. She was inside her car, still so shocked that it happened at all.

“I was looking through the aisles. Everything was trash… Wouldn’t buy anything,” Nicole started. Thrifting is a sport—and items are either a hit or a miss. But then, she got to the purse aisle. At that time, she had her Louis Vuitton Speedy in Damier slung on her arm. The bag was personalized, with an LV keychain dangling from its handles.

A purse caught Nicole’s eye from the shelves. She started inspecting it—maybe this would be her first find of the day? That was until an older lady walked by, looked at her, and got up close and personal. The saxophones started blaring.

Gaslit at Goodwill

“Excuse me, I was actually going to buy this purse,” the lady said. Some people at the thrift start fights over items. Surely, Nicole wasn’t going to start beating an elderly woman over a purse, would she?

Social media users were appalled by the older woman’s attempt at taking Nicole’s purse. One commenter wrote, “Okay, that will be $5,000.” The bag with the keychain accessory would total to nearly that amount. But at least Nicole wasn’t swindled to give her purse away.

“I saw that on the shelf first, and I was actually going to buy that first,” the woman told Nicole at the time.

“This is my purse! What do you mean you saw it first?” The sirens couldn’t be blaring any louder at this point. Nicole started taking the contents of her bag out. She even had a matching wallet—needless to say, this purse has always been hers. Although Nicole’s thrifting adventure of the day failed, she at least came out of Goodwill with her Louis Vuitton intact.

Social media users were appalled by the older woman’s attempt at taking Nicole’s purse. One commenter wrote, “Okay, that will be $5,000.”

While it isn’t impossible to find genuine Louis Vuitton purses at Goodwill from time to time, Nicole’s didn’t look like it was yanked from the shelves of a random thrift store. It was clean and well-kept, and it even had an accessory on it. Perhaps the lady found a similar bag on the shelves, but the keychain set Nicole’s bag apart from anyone else’s.

As another commenter said, “The bag charm wasn’t an indication?” Other TikTok users believe that the woman had too much “audacity” and thought she could get away with taking Nicole’s purse. Despite logos not being on trend, a classic Speedy from Louis Vuitton will never go out of style. With luxury brands increasing prices yearly, it’s possible that the woman thought she could have a steal—perhaps literally in this instance.

But apparently, Nicole’s bizarre experience had also happened to others in the thrift. One ex-employee said, “I worked at Goodwill, and people always try to buy my Stanley lol.” It seems that some people believe that everything is for sale just because it’s in the store.

“I don’t know what was wrong with that woman, but she was ready to snatch my purse,” Nicole said, disturbed by the encounter.
