Woman’s ex situationship gets engaged—so she pulls out her mom’s wedding dress and pretends to get married: ‘Isn’t that bad luck?’

Everyone handles heartbreak differently. Some people journal. Some hit the gym. And some apparently respond to their ex-situationship getting engaged by digging out a vintage wedding dress and staging a mock ceremony in the living room.
One viral TikTok has viewers torn between concern and admiration. Is this iconic coping behavior? Or is it the exact kind of energy that gets described as “a lot” in group chats?
What Happened With Her ‘Ex-Situationship?’
TikToker Tori (@tori_chloe) has reeled in 1.4 million viewers and over 500 comments with just a 14-second clip. She didn’t even have to say much. One simple sentence paired with the rest of the video did enough of the talking.
The text overlay reads: “When my ex situationship got engaged so i put on my mom’s wedding dress and pretended to get married.”
What follows are short clips of Tori in said wedding dress parading around her house. The first clip shows her in a bedroom, presumably simulating her walk down the aisle. The caption says “she said i do!”
Next is a photo of a man and her linking arms. It seems like he is giving her away at the altar. The rest of the photos are just Tori in the dress. One of the captions reads, “Top weirdest thing she’s done.”
Is it Bad Luck To Wear A Wedding Dress If Not Engaged?
Countless viewers flocked to Tori’s comments section to warn her of incoming bad luck. Apparently, there’s an entire superstition about it. However, as widely held as this belief may be, some bridal websites were quick to assuage anxious women everywhere.
In April 2025, The Knot reported on “14 Things to Know Before Trying On Wedding Dresses.” Their listicle goes from giving advice for wedding dress shopping to answering FAQs. At the very end, they answer the million-dollar question: no, it’s not bad luck! If that doesn’t quell any uneasy feelings, worry not. Other blogs like KandBBridals and Ashley Grace Bridal also share the same notion. Both focus more on the fact that the main aspect is wearing the full bridal attire before the wedding. In that case, they both suggest leaving something out of the look, like the earrings or hairpin, until right before the ceremony.
‘Please delete this’
Viewers are, for the most part, horrified. Whether bad luck or not, they think Tori’s little act is bordering on insanity. Funnily enough, they still relate. A comment with over 22,000 likes says, “ooooh noooo, been there. So what are ya prescribed… im a zoloft girl.”
“So we’re all crazy not just me?!” claims another. “I’m on your side…this is the type of unhinged shenanigans. I’m talking about,” says a third.
A fourth viewer shares, “I’ve been pretty delusional over a situationship before but I don’t think I was ever on this level… but I did get medicated soooooooo.”

Others try reasoning with Tori instead. “Did he care?” asks a comment with 14,000 likes. Another simply states, “Please delete this.”
One viewer claims, “I’m sorry but people need to stop gaf this much abt people they aren’t serious abt.”
Finally, one viewer says, “Everyone’s so strict in the comments.”
