Texas man goes to Cheddar’s and tries to place a to-go order. Then a server says no, they won’t do that: ‘I’m confused’

With the explosion in popularity of apps that let you order anything from food to large furniture to be delivered straight to your doorstep, delivery at the tap of a screen has become our norm.
So when a Texas man went to Cheddar’s and the staff allegedly told him they had stopped accepting takeout orders at the moment, he was utterly disappointed.
Content creator @theuntamedblade posted about the experience on TikTok, getting over 6200 views.
“OK, Cheddar’s, we gotta do better than this, man,” he says, filming a menu inside the restaurant. “So I’m trying to get a takeout order, right? And they told me, ‘No, you have to dine in and order from our table. We’re not accepting to-go orders.”
“Cheddar’s is Overrated!” he added in the video’s caption.
Why Do Restaurants Stop Taking Takeout Orders At Times?
While it may seem counterintuitive for a business to turn away paying customers, restaurants often pause takeout orders.
This can happen if a restaurant gets unusually busy and can’t handle both tables in the dining room and customers ordering takeout. In these situations, the restaurant will often make sure it prioritizes the customers who are dining in rather than orders from apps like DoorDash or Grubhub.
Additionally, sudden, unplanned understaffings can happen, meaning there are fewer hands to cook, serve, and package orders for takeout at the same time. Takeout orders frequently take longer to serve compared to plating a dish for in-house diners.
Finally, Cheddar’s isn’t the only restaurant that doesn’t accept takeout orders during peak hours, weekends, or early in the morning. Other prominent chains reportedly do the same, such as Chipotle, McDonald’s, and others.
Commenters Offer Up Theories
In the comments section, viewers tried to guess why Cheddar’s wasn’t accepting to-go orders.
“Probably because they are short staffed,” one user wrote.
“Because it isn’t busy and the servers want tips?” suggested another.
“How is that my problem?” the creator pondered.
“Bruh never used the internet before to place a Togo order?” another asked sarcastically.
“App wasnt working,” the TikToker responded. “And the front refused to take my takeout order and forced us to dine in.”
“Oh the humanity, he had to eat in at the restaurant, someone call the avengers, this is a world ending situation!” wrote a fourth commenter sarcastically.
