The View host slams Melania Trump’s attempt to bury Epstein rumors, claiming the strategy will backfire spectacularly
Back in the spotlight.

The latest attempt by Melania Trump to distance herself from associations with Jeffrey Epstein has backfired, according to Ana Navarro. During a live episode of The View on April 13, 2026, the panel dissected a surprise statement issued by the First Lady on April 9. The conversation quickly turned into a critique of her strategy, with Navarro arguing that by trying to bury these rumors, the First Lady has inadvertently reignited public interest in the Epstein files.
According to Decider, Whoopi Goldberg kicked off the segment by noting that Melania Trump explicitly denied that Epstein was the person who introduced her to her husband Donald Trump. Furthermore, the First Lady claimed she had no knowledge of the crimes committed by Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.
Navarro, never one to hold back, didn’t waste any time calling the move a massive mistake. She insisted that if the goal was to silence speculation, the First Lady achieved the exact opposite by opening a Pandora’s box of questions.
Navarro frustration is with a pattern of behavior on display here
Navarro pointed out the irony of the First Lady feeling frustrated by conspiracy theories regarding her own life, while reminding the audience that she was once a prominent figure in spreading the birtherism conspiracy against Barack Obama. It’s this kind of perceived hypocrisy that seems to drive the panel’s frustration. Navarro suggested that if the First Lady truly wants to be a champion for survivors of Epstein, there are concrete steps she could take.
She proposed that Melania invite survivors to the White House to hear their stories directly. Beyond that, Navarro suggested that the First Lady could use her position to pressure her husband to instruct the Department of Justice to release all relevant files. She also suggested that she could call on her friend, Mike Johnson in Congress, to demand accountability and push for congressional hearings.
The rest of the panel jumped in to support this line of reasoning. Sara Haines argued that justice shouldn’t be a partisan issue and suggested that Melania should testify before the House Oversight Committee. Haines emphasized that everyone in a position of power should be willing to go under oath if they truly have nothing to hide. Sunny Hostin echoed these sentiments, noting that the role of First Lady is an incredibly powerful platform that has been used for great work by predecessors.
Hostin underscored her skepticism by pointing out that there are numerous photos of Melania with Epstein and Maxwell. When one such photo was displayed on the studio monitors, Hostin didn’t mince words, exclaiming that the evidence suggests she must have some level of knowledge. She challenged the First Lady’s assertion that she is fighting back against baseless lies, asking what those specific lies are and demanding more transparency.
In the past, Navarro has criticized Melania for ‘performative hypocrisy’
Back in August 2025, Navarro famously slammed Melania Trump for what she described as performative hypocrisy. At that time, the First Lady had written a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin urging him to end the war in Ukraine for the sake of children.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Navarro found it difficult to reconcile that message with the administration’s own policies regarding immigrant children in America. She highlighted the fear many families face due to deportation raids and questioned why the same concern for children wasn’t being applied domestically. It’s a recurring theme on the show, where the cohosts frequently challenge the Trump administration’s narrative.
The cohosts have remained consistent in their criticism of the President and the First Lady throughout their time in office. This critical stance has drawn significant fire from conservative figures and even government officials. There have been instances where representatives from the White House and even the Federal Communications Commission have suggested that the show’s tone could lead to consequences. Despite this, the panel has pushed for answers on sensitive topics.
Whether one agrees with the panel’s approach or not, it’s hard to deny that the women of The View are keeping these issues firmly in the public eye. By calling for testimony and full transparency, they are essentially daring the administration to engage with the uncomfortable questions surrounding the Epstein files. For now, the public is left waiting to see if there will be any further response from the First Lady or if this statement will be the final word on the matter.
