Dating nowadays can feel unpredictable, but sometimes the red flags are so extreme that they make you doubt your intuition for not spotting them.

One TikTok creator says that’s what happened to her friend who was dating in Charlotte, North Carolina.

In her video, which has garnered over 445,400 views, Ashley (@chaosinthecarolinas) said the woman’s seemingly normal date turned into a disturbing story.

What Did the Date Do?

“This is a warning for all my single girls in Charlotte, North Carolina,” Ashley begins, explaining that her friend, who she refers to as “Jen”, had been seeing a man, Ryan, who she initially liked.

“She went on three dates with a guy, and she really likes him. Or liked him,” Ashley says.

By the third date, Ashley explains, her friend was feeling comfortable enough to consider taking things a step further.

“She was thinking about ‘Let’s invite him back to her apartment,” Ashley recalls.

That’s when he dropped the bomb. As they were finishing dinner, Ashley says the man suddenly told her something troubling.

“He looks at her very earnestly, and he says, ‘I just wanna really thank you… I’ve been putting you through some tests, and you’ve passed with flying colors,’” Ashley recounts.

Confused, her friend asked what he meant.

“He’s like, ‘well, I’ve been putting things in your drink the last three dates,’” Ashley says.

What He Admitted To Putting in Her Drink

Ashley says the explanation only got more unsettling.

According to her, the man claimed this was something he and his friend group regularly did to evaluate people.

“He said that it’s very big for his group of friends to see how somebody deals with… their order not being what it was,” Ashley explains.

Naturally, Ashley says her friend immediately wanted to know what exactly had been added to her drinks.

“She’s thinking automatically that it was like a substance,” Ashley says.

Instead, the man described a series of so-called “tests.”

“He was like, ‘The first date, I put sugar in it… you made this really cute face, but you didn’t say anything,’” Ashley recounts.

He then described the second date.

“‘On the second date, I decided to put pepper… you did mention that your drink was off, but you still drank it,’” Ashley says, adding that he interpreted this as her having “a lot of grace.”

By this point, Ashley says her friend was already uncomfortable, but it managed to get even worse.

“He was like… ‘so tonight I put my pubic hair in your drink,’” Ashley recalls.

How She Reacted

Ashley says her friend was completely caught off guard. “She was just dumbfounded in the moment,” she explains.

The details themselves raised even more questions. “Did he bring it with him? Was it already in his pocket? Did he go into the bathroom?” Ashley wonders.

According to Ashley, the man continued to describe his behavior as a kind of personality test.

“I just wanted to see if you would complain,’” she recalls him saying.

Ashley says he still tried to continue the date. “He was like, ‘I had a great time, and I would really like to invite you to my place,’” she says.

Her friend, however, had reached her limit. “She was like, ‘I need to go home,’” Ashley explains.

Since then, she claims the man has continued trying to contact her friend.

“He’s dropped off like multiple bouquets of flowers,” Ashley says. “He thinks that they’re soulmates ‘cause she passed the three-day test.”

Ashley ends her video with a warning to others.

“Single girls in Charlotte, beware,” she concludes. “If your drink tastes weird, say something.”

Commenters Urge Immediate Action

In the comments, viewers were appalled.

“As a lawyer, I’d call the police,” one person wrote.

“As a single girl in Charlotte – THIS is why I choose the bear. Thanks for sharing. I hope your friend is doing okay,” another said.

“I don’t take my eyes off my drink, and what if she’s allergic to pepper? Like I know a lot of people that are actually allergic to pepper,” a third added.

What Should You Do In A Situation Like This?

If you ever find out that someone has been putting things in your drink without your knowledge, it’s important to treat it seriously. Even if it turns out not to be a harmful substance, it can be considered tampering and could put your health at risk.

If possible, avoid finishing the drink and preserve what’s left of it. That can be important if you decide to report the incident, as it may serve as evidence.

From there, it’s a good idea to contact local authorities and make a report so there is documentation of what happened.

If the person continues contacting you or showing up uninvited, that may fall under harassment. In those cases, you can report it and, depending on your situation, look into options like a protective order.
