Convicted child killer found partying with spring breakers in Florida, and his reason for being there pushes sheriffs to act

An unexpected catch.

Florida authorities recently nabbed a convicted child killer, Anthony Grove, who was found casually partying with spring breakers at Daytona Beach while wanted for violating his parole. According to the NY Post, the arrest happened during a focused sweep by law enforcement cracking down on vacationers’ behavior.

Grove, 45, was convicted back in February 2015 for the tragic death of his infant son. He pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and endangering the welfare of a child in Ohio after he reportedly threw a coffee mug at his child’s mother and accidentally struck his baby in the head.

At the time of his arrest this past weekend, Grove was actually wanted on a warrant from Ohio for violating his parole. Ohio authorities had issued that warrant on October 29, 2025, warning the public that Grove should be considered “dangerous and possibly armed.” You can just imagine the surprise when deputies found him chilling on Daytona Beach.

The cops were actually around only to keep a check on vacationers

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office was conducting a huge sweep, sending a surge of deputies to the beach in anticipation of another unruly spring break crowd, when Chief Deputy Brian Henderson and another deputy spotted Grove. He was sitting on a green towel on the sand, next to another man who was openly drinking whiskey from a bottle, totally oblivious to the authorities closing in.

Grove, who was covered in tattoos, sporting a mohawk, silver chain, and bright green sunglasses, initially played it “real cool,” according to Henderson, acting like he didn’t have a care in the world. When Henderson asked Grove why he was wanted in Ohio, Grove’s explanation was reportedly unintelligible at first, but it quickly sparked an intense reaction from the officer.

Henderson recounts that Grove mentioned something about his kid and a “car accident,” which clearly didn’t sit right with the chief deputy. “Go sit in the car,” Henderson firmly told Grove, shaking his head in obvious disbelief at the story. As another officer escorted him to the squad car, Grove could be heard saying, “It’s over, bro.”

It turns out Grove had admitted to Henderson that he was wanted in Ohio “from an incident where he killed his child,” but then he denied being on parole. He told deputies he’d been in the area for days, apparently looking for a job.

However, his Ohio parole agreement explicitly required him to get a written travel permit before crossing state lines, which he clearly hadn’t done. Now, he’s facing new charges in Florida for failing to register as a convicted felon and two counts of drug possession after deputies allegedly found a THC weed pen in his backpack.

Henderson emphasized the importance of enforcing even minor public nuisance laws. He noted, “This is why we said the little things matter – you enforce the small public nuisance crimes and here we are, we find a guy that’s sitting up on the seawall, drinking booze…This is the kind of people we don’t need on our beach, we don’t need in our community and I’m glad we could get him off the sand.” Grove is currently in custody, awaiting extradition back to Ohio.
