‘You walked so I could run’: Chapelle Roan makes Miley Cyrus cry with a sudden confession

Full circle moment.

Chappell Roan recently brought Miley Cyrus to tears with a heartfelt confession, crediting the superstar for paving the way for boundary-pushing artists like herself. Roan candidly expressed her gratitude, acknowledging that Cyrus absorbed much of the public’s criticism years ago, making it easier for younger performers to be themselves today without facing the same intense backlash.

According to Reality Tea, Roan shared this powerful sentiment during the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special, where she had the chance to speak directly with Cyrus. She reflected on growing up with Hannah Montana and witnessing Cyrus’s public evolution firsthand.

Roan told Cyrus, “You literally walked so I could run,” explaining that she can be her authentic self “because you took a lot of the heat in 2012, 2013.” She added, “I don’t have to deal with it as much, because, like, you really — like, the world took out on you.”

Roan commended Cyrus for enduring years of public judgment

It’s clear Roan sees Cyrus as someone who took the hits that cleared a path for future artists. She continued, “To see you be the artist you are, to be able to do this, it just shows your heart and your appreciation for your younger self and what got you here.” This praise visibly moved Cyrus, who responded simply but profoundly, saying, “That means a lot to me.”

The timing of Roan’s incredibly sincere message feels especially significant. This public acknowledgment of Cyrus’s influence comes just after Roan herself navigated a wave of online backlash. This recent incident involved a security guard at a hotel in Brazil, which led to a lot of online chatter.

Roan addressed the situation directly in a video response, clarifying, “I’m gonna tell my half of the story of what happened today with a mother and child who were involved with a security guard – who is not my personal security.” She quickly dismissed some wild accusations, adding, “I do not hate children, like that is crazy.”

Given her recent experience with public scrutiny, Roan’s message to Cyrus resonates even more deeply. She believes Cyrus’s fearless stand and ability to endure “a lot of the heat” from the world helped create space for the kind of unapologetically bold pop persona Roan now confidently brings to the stage.
