Erin Wright begins her TikTok video by saying that in June 2024, she was supposed to take an American Airlines flight to New Orleans for her sister’s bachelorette party, but was unable to check in on the airline’s website multiple times, even though she had already booked the ticket. She then tried to check in at the airport kiosks, but received an error message. Concerned she would miss her flight, she asked the airport staff, who also received a similar message. Then, one thing led to another, and her issue was redirected to various sources, most of whom refused to tell her why she was banned. After a series of redirections, Erin finally learned that she had been banned from flying with American Airlines because she had sexual relations with a man on the flight while being intoxicated. But there’s a catch: Erin is a lesbian, which means it’s impossible that it was her, and the airline just got her mixed up with someone else. In her video, Erin emphasizes how outrageous the situation was, condemns it, and says she needs the money she lost because of the airline’s mistake.

TikTok user @erin_wright_ narrates the story of how she was banned by American Airlines

Erin highlights in her TikTok video that she was redirected to several people at the airport after learning she had been banned from flying with American Airlines. She realized she would miss her flight, so she booked a round-trip ticket to New Orleans for $1,000. Around the same time, she learned that as a last resort to find out why she was banned by American Airlines, she would have to email “customer relations.” However, Erin did not get any answers there and was instead redirected to “corporate security,” who eventually told her she was banned because she had physical relations with a man on a flight while under the influence of alcohol. Erin notes that the time between her first email to customer relations and corporate security’s response was 12 days.

Erin then emailed corporate security, stating that it wasn’t her they were talking about and asking them to remove her from the no-fly list. She also asked them to give her some money, as she was out $1,400, of which $1,000 was spent due to the airline’s fault. In response, corporate security at American Airlines asked her to send an official appeal explaining why she was innocent of the accusations. Erin replied, saying that it was difficult to prove she was not involved in the incident, but she is a lesbian and knows others who can attest to the same. Then, Erin’s mother wrote to the Law Department of American Airlines requesting her daughter be removed from the no-fly list, after which Erin received a call saying she had been temporarily removed from the list until further notice. Erin also revealed that the airline refunded her $400 for the first flight but refused to reimburse the $1,000 she spent on the second flight, which she wouldn’t have had to book if they hadn’t confused her with someone else.

TikTok user @erin_wright_’s video has garnered a lot of attention

Erin Wright’s TikTok video, where she shares her experience of being banned from flying with American Airlines, has gained thousands of likes, comments, and shares. Many are shocked to hear about Erin’s situation, including user @athenatown, who commented, “It’s bananas that you can be banned and they’ll still let you buy a ticket.” User @drpeepee30 added, “A ban should automatically have a file with proof right?? like why would they NOT have a traceable process with something as serious as that??”

Many people urged Erin to consider suing American Airlines over the ordeal that caused her so much harassment. User @livingindreamworld suggested, “File a complaint with the Department of Transportation. They are legally required to not only refund you but to provide an answer.” User @brookemgall said, “File official complaints with the FAA and DOT!! They have to respond to regulatory complaints within a certain timeframe and are usually way more helpful.”
