Skincare used to be so simple. Now, it’s a wildly overwhelming landscape of endless products, competing pieces of advice, and 15-step nighttime routines. It’s out of control.

Moreover, beauty products are only getting more expensive as the years go by. So when a mega-popular brand that’s beloved by ordinary people—like Fenty Beauty—pitches a product to the public, it makes sense that said public makes sure they’re getting the right bang for their buck.

Enter @pnutbuttrjellityme, a TikToker who’s going viral for her bizarre experience buying some Fenty Skin body butter. She was left wondering if she truly got what she paid for.

What’s wrong with this Fenty body butter?

On Feb. 24, @pnutbuttrjellityme posted a video. It has now racked up over 200,000 views. She spoke about a moisturizer purchase gone allegedly wrong. She starts the video off by showing her recently purchased tub of Fenty Skin Butta to the camera.

“So I go to Sephora and I get this body butter that I’ve been wanting for a long time,” the creator says. “This I paid $40 for … So then I open it up and I say, ‘Oh, what the world, what is this?'”

She then shows the top of the tub. While it has a protective wrap that can be peeled back to access the cream, there appears to be no lid to screw back onto the tub. The TikToker is audibly baffled.

“Why is there no top?” she asks her viewers. “And so then I dump it out, cause surely there’s a top after paying $40 for it.”

Alas, there is not a single top to be seen. She makes a new realization after taking a closer look at the packaging.

“Baby, this is a refill,” she says.

She says she “can’t wait to use” the moisturizer, is delighted by the thick consistency, and “absolutely [loves] it down.” However, she feels frustrated by the lack of brand-new packaging she was hoping for.

“I’m thoroughly confused and just a wee bit p-ssed off because huh, $40 for no top?” she finishes in her video. “How am I supposed to keep that fresh? … Yeah, that just p-ssed me clean off.”

Commenters shared her outrage and offered their sympathy. Some echoed her qualms about receiving a lidless moisturizer at that price point. However, others pointed out that this is just how it works when buying refill products.

“The one you bought goes into the bigger regular packaging,” one viewer explained. “The regular is more than $40 and when you finish that one you buy that one and it saves you money and less packaging for the environment sake. The regular one doesn’t come in a box, it just has a cardboard sleeve over it that says what it is.”

@pnutbuttrjellityme The body butter with no top .. for $40 just pissed me clean off. They were sold out of the other scents. I grabbed what was behind the tester and ASSUMED there would be a top ? silly me @Fenty Skin #fentybodybutter #refill #fenty #rihhana ♬ original sound – PnutButtrJelliTyme

Is the Fenty Skin body butter worth the $40 price tag?

The creator’s bizarre experience notwithstanding, Fenty Skin—like Fenty Beauty—is surely popular for a reason. So, assuming you actually get the brand-new product you paid for, is Fenty’s body butter worth the price?

The overwhelming answer online is, simply, yes. According to beauty writer Genesis Rivas in an Oprah Daily review, this body butter is so good that it even had the writer’s husband stealing some from her. Rivas calls the butter “super moisturizing and nourishing,” saying it keeps her skin “hydrated long after application.”

“It strikes the perfect balance of rich and buttery, but it isn’t heavy or greasy at all,” Rivas writes in her view. “Immediately after application, my skin looks healthy and radiant, and it feels silky and soft-shout out to those oils!”

An Essence review of the body butter also sang its praises, and everyday people on Reddit also seem to absolutely love the product. Clearly, it’s at least on some level worth the hype if the price isn’t a complete turnoff. One Reddit commenter even called it “the best post pregnancy cream ever.” They offered some advice on how to best use the moisturizer—and how long one container will last.

“It is heavy and will soak into your clothes, if you don’t have time to wait,” advised the commenter. “Whole body every day – it lasted 2 weeks.”
