Man Dressed as Batman is the Hero Santa Clara Needs Against ICE

ICE agents approach a house before detaining two people on January 13, 2026 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Trump administration has deployed over 2,400 Department of Homeland Security agents to the state of Minnesota in a push to apprehend undocumented immigrants.

The dicey class politics of Batman can be discussed all day and night, but at its heart the caped crusader is about using the power he has to go after the bad guys.

Most people would consider masked men who kidnap people off the streets, lock up children, and shoot disarmed, immobilized citizens as bad guys, so it follows Batman would not be a fan of ICE (and some big names in the comic book world have made it clear they think he wouldn’t be the only superhero to dislike the dangerously bumbling armies that are terrorizing cities across the country). One concerned Santa Clara citizen has taken this fighting spirit to his local council meeting, using his time to excoriate the council members on their inactivity — all while dressed as Batman.

Though there was clearly emotion in his voice, the unnamed citizen was unequivocal and clear in his statement:

You have had months to prepare for this upcoming event. People are dying on our streets every single day…because we allow this federal government to walk all over you…Can any one of you go home to your children and tell them you did everything you could to protect their classmates? To protect their classmates? To protect them? I don’t think you can.

He continued not to mince his words, adding:

I am disgusted by each and everyone of you, with the exception of Council Member Park, that you have not done something more. You need to afirm that no city resources will go to ICE. That no cooperation will be given to them. You need to affirm to the country, to the world, that you are not cowards…if you do not act, you are not just cowards, but traitors.

Council Member Kevin Park has moved to have Santa Clara listed as a sanctuary city. Citizens are concerned that ICE will operate, and cause unrest, at the upcoming Superbowl, which will make place at the Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.
