Bride-to-be tries on wedding dresses. She didn’t expect the stylists to bring up her cup size every single time: ‘As an A-cup, I feel your pain’

Wedding dress shopping as an activity alone already has you wrestling with your self-esteem. Now, imagine finally finding the gown, only for every mirror moment to come with a running commentary on your chest.
In one viral TikTok, a bride-to-be got a masterclass in “bust cups 101.” This, in turn, sparked a comments-section brawl over whether the stylist was being helpful or just another reminder that women’s bodies are apparently still up for group discussion.
Wedding Dress Try-on Gone Wrong
Every person has their own insecurities, but seldom does one share them with the world. Now, if you’re going to be trying on gowns for what might be the most important day in your life…these little devils obviously pop up.
In Laura’s (@laura.wedd) defense, these unsolicited comments were always front and center. Now, this just means that 7.7 million viewers know this awkward situation. In her short clip, viewers see Laura in an elegant wedding gown. Based on the racks of dresses behind her, we can tell she is standing in front of a mirror. Off to the left, viewers can only see half of another woman’s body. She seems to be the stylist. Then, she starts talking.
“If you wanted more of a shape in it, just get bust cups sewn into the dress at alterations. We sew a lot of bust cups into most dresses, especially those that haven’t got…” she trails off.
The clip ends here, but the text overlay adds more meat to the story. “POV: you’re an A cup and this is a conversation I have at every bridal appointment.” Her caption has only one acronym: “iykyk.’ Expanding into “if you know, you know,” Laura is probably calling on women who have also undergone this experience.
Was the Stylist in the Wrong?
Much of the debate in the comments centers on whether the stylist’s suggestion was rude or helpful. A common argument is that she shouldn’t have been acknowledging Laura’s body image if Laura herself hadn’t brought it up first.
In 2012, The Huffington Post reported on red flags to watch out for in a bridal consultant. Among the six mentioned, “you feel judged” came in at number four.
“One of my most important rules of retail (and of life in general) is to never pre-judge someone,” it says, “The person who helps you find your gown should not look at you — someone she has never met — and then have the audacity to think she knows who you are based on the way you appear to her.” This is a point some of the viewers are trying to make.

‘She’s Got a Point’
While some commenters already have pitchforks in their hands, others are doing damage control.
“Guys she says IF YOU WANTED,” a viewer’s comment with 74,000 likes says. While another says, “As an A cup, I would have liked and appriciated her giving me this option. So no, she is not rude. She is helpfull.”
One viewer says, “She’s giving you options, it’s not fair the comments calling her rude.” Laura then replies, “I didn’t take it personally, I know she’s just doing her job, the video was meant to be funny that everywhere I’ve gone they recommend it without me even mentioning it.”
Another viewer posts a comment similar to the previous and Laura responds, “Yes, it’s her job, in fact she was super lovely and helpful. I didn’t ask to talk about cups, maybe she felt like she should mention is because she could see I was feeling insecure just by looking at my chest in the mirror. I’m glad she gave me options, this is literally not what this tiktok is about.”
Others, naturally, are still clutching their pearls. One viewer states, “It’s concerning how many don’t realise how damaging this is to the mindset and body image. Proud of you for sharing.”
“This is a nightmare convo because it really comes off derogatory no matter how it’s phrased,” says another. A second says, “They should not say things like this unless the bride says something about it first.”
Lastly, a comment with over 2,000 likes states, “She’s got a point get the cups.”
