For years, lip filler has taken the beauty industry by storm, influencing an overwhelming number of young adults to flock to their nearest esthetician to achieve fuller, plumper lips. After an injection and a few weeks of recovery, the subtle difference can be a confidence booster. However, nothing is completely foolproof, leaving room for negative results. Before booking an appointment, one woman shares the unexpected reaction her lips had in the cold.

The 16-second clip features New York City-based TikTok creator Tlifts (@tlifts70).

“No one [expletive] told me that when you get lip filler and it’s super cold out, the lip filler [expletive] freezes in your lips,” she shares.

Then, she recalls how she arrived at that conclusion.“Tell me why I walked into the office in 15 degrees Fahrenheit weather. Suddenly, she pauses to create a frozen face. “I was literally talking like this because my lips wouldn’t move,” the content creator mimics, her words muffled as her lips barely part to enunciate.

Tlifts advises anyone planning to receive this beauty enhancer in the caption: “Make sure to warm them lips up.”

Viewers With Lip Filler Enter The Chat

The video racked up over 654,000 views, and the comments section was flooded with avid lip filler users disputing the content creator’s statement, claiming her experience was abnormal.

“Mmmm Minnesota girlie … it’s freezing cold for months on end .. I ski regularly… I have never had frozen lip filler,” one viewer remarked.

“So hey….no it doesn’t. As someone with filler and lives in Utah, no it doesn’t,” a second echoed.

“Iowa here. I have never [had] that before,” a third revealed.

“Girl, I’ve had lip filler for years and never not once has my lip filler froze. I’d call your injector ASAP,” a fourth recommended.

“Mmmmm that’s not normal! I have mine as well and this has never happened to me! You need to see what they injected [you with]. Good luck girly,” a fifth said.

Can Lip Fillers Freeze?

Typically, synthetic hyaluronic acid is the most commonly used ingredient for dermal fillers (lip fillers) as it’s the safest and most natural option. Because lips and the body share the same temperature, the gel is protected from even the coldest elements, according to Beauty Dermal.

Despite the popular myth, winter is the ideal time because it minimizes side effects, such as bruising and swelling. But avoiding extreme temperatures 48 hours after treatment is recommended due to lip sensitivity, potentially exacerbating side effects and prolonging recovery, Nur MedSpa & Wellness states. However, Empire Medical Training urges you to seek medical attention if you experience the following symptoms:

  • Lip numbness
  • Nodule formation
  • Sudden lip swelling
  • Rash
  • Trouble breathing
  • Infection
  • Pain, tenderness, warmth, or pus around the area of the injection
  • Blood clotting
