The Pitt rolled in like a storm and fans were captivated by the real time shift of doctors and nurses at the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. But one of the show’s beloved favorites will not be returning for season 2.

Tracy Ifeachor, who played Dr. Heather Collins, is now not returning to the show for season 2. Apparently it was not Ifeachor’s choice, according to Variety. The show does take place during one shift at the hospital and with season 2 being set during the Fourth of July in Pittsburgh, maybe it was just decided by the writer’s room that Dr. Collins wasn’t needed for season 2. Whatever the decision, it was met with a lot of mess on the fandom side of The Pitt.

When it was announced that she would not return, fans thought that they had discovered a connection between Ifeachor and an evangelical church in London that has taken part in “gay exorcisms.” It forced Ifeachor’s representatives to make statements against these rumors. “These claims are entirely false. First, Tracy was not fired. Dr. Heather Collins was simply not written in as a part of Season 2, which is a creative decision that has been confirmed by HBO,” Ifeachor’s reps told The Mirror.

Her representatives went on to say, “Furthermore, any rumors about Tracy participating in any discrimination through her religion are completely incorrect, defamatory, and hurtful.” The statement goes on, “This gossip could not be further from the truth. She is a woman who leads with love, kindness, and compassion, and as her very gay publicist, I can say that I see this daily, firsthand.”

In her own post about leaving the series, Ifeachor had nothing but good things to say about her experience on The Pitt. “What a blessing to be a part of this first and foundational season of #ThePitt on @hbomax. It was an absolute privilege to play Dr. Heather Collins in such a groundbreaking season and piece. Thank you to everyone who has watched and supported Season 1 and shared their stories with me.”
