Mad Max: Fury Road was practically a spiritual experience for a lot of fans, leaving even those of us who can’t actually sit through the earlier films without falling asleep desperate for more. Now, almost a decade later, we’re finally getting it, because in addition to the Imperator Furiosa prequel that’s coming out in 2024, the film’s other prequel, Mad Max: The Wasteland, is back on the schedule. Here’s everything we’ve scrounged up about it so far.
Does Mad Max: The Wasteland have a release date yet?
No, Mad Max: The Wasteland hasn’t been officially announced yet by Warner Bros., so there’s no official release date yet, either. Even when they do announce it, the release date’s still not likely to be any time soon, as George Miller hadn’t even got as far as finalizing the story before the lawsuit against Warner Bros. disrupted things, so there’ll still be an awful lot of work to do. We will, however, let you know the release date as soon as we do so make sure to bookmark this article for updates.
Is there a trailer for Mad Max: The Wasteland?
Sadly, no, just like there’s no release date there’s no trailer. But, keep your eyes here for updates etc.
Will Furiosa be in it?
No, while Imperator Furiosa is getting her own prequel, she’s not going to be in Mad Max: The Wasteland, or likely any other new Mad Max movies going forward, not least because of the bad blood between Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy that developed on the set of the last movie. That is part of the point of Mad Max, though: No matter the alliances he makes or bonds he forges along the way, he always ends up alone again on the road (and let’s hope Hardy can avoid alienating a new set of co-stars this time).
So far, the only cast we know of are Tom Hardy, reprising his role as the eponymous Max, and Chris Hemsworth in an as yet unnamed role.
What about the plot?
Like the Furiosa movie, Mad Max: The Wasteland is actually a prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road, with the plot set about a year prior to the opening of the previous film. It’ll be Max, his V8, and an “incredibly bleak” story. Hmm, we can’t wait.
