Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

‘Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’ Gets Its First Wave of Booster Pack Courses, We Can Now Revisit Paris

Blue shells spotted zipping past the Eiffel Tower.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is getting its very own Kraft Deluxe Shells and Cheese upgrade with a Booster Course Pass that’ll give us more courses to ruin our friendships over. Originally announced back in February, the first eight courses have been released with more headed our way up through 2023. And sure, we were all hoping for a Mario Kart 9 announcement because Mario Kart 8 was released back in 2014 with Deluxe coming in 2017, but hey, now we can continue to hope AND revisit some classic tracks so … that’s something?

What is the Booster Course Pass?

The Booster Course Pass will be releasing remastered versions of previous Mario Kart stages from now until the end of 2023. The courses will be released in six waves, and each wave will contain eight courses, giving us 48 altogether. The pass costs $24.99, but if you’re subscribed to the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack you’ll get the courses for free. There are no dates on when the other five waves will hit or what courses will be in those waves.

What tracks have been released so far?

The following eight tracks are ready to drop banana peels on:

  • Paris Promenade (Mario Kart Tour)
  • Toad Circuit (Mario Kart 3DS)
  • Choco Mountain (Mario Kart 64)
  • Coconut Mall (Mario Kart Wii)
  • Tokyo Blur (Mario Kart Tour)
  • Shroom Ridge (Mario Kart DS)
  • Sky Garden (Mario Kart Advance)
  • Ninja Hideaway (Mario Kart Tour)

I’m actually curious about Paris Promenade, Tokyo Blur, and Ninja Hideaway because I’ve never played Mario Kart Tour (the mobile game that was released in 2019). Besides those courses, I’ve always liked Coconut Mall, and I like seeing new updates to older courses like Choco Mountain from the N64 era of Mario Kart.

I still want Mario Kart 9, Nintendo. I know the “8” looks like an infinity symbol, but we’re gonna get a new game eventually, right?
