Busy Philipps at Marie Claire honors

Things We Saw Today: Busy Philipps’s Show Busy Tonight Is Canceled

Recommended Videos

A wonderful late night talk show that actually features a woman behind the desk? This was revolutionary when the weekly dose of Samantha Bee was all we had to live on. But now it seems that that revolutionary moment has come to an end. Busy Tonight, Busy Philipps’ engaging talk show that was featured on E!, has been canceled.

While Philipps is looking for a new home for the show, I want to focus on why it was so important: it always felt like a genuine celebration of the talent and their work. Philipps did fun gimmicks, and the run of the mill late-night gags, but she also had actual conversations with her guests.

Busy Tonight was a breath of fresh air in comparison to some of the other late-night talk shows out there, and we loved having another woman to catch on TV after hours. Hopefully, we can find a new home for the show, and soon.

An E! spokesperson told us via email, “‘Busy Tonight’ last episode for E! will air Thursday, May 16 with a special celebratory half-hour. Busy is a hilarious and charismatic talent and we are grateful to the entire ‘Busy Tonight’ team who has delivered countless laughs and heartwarming moments in what will be over 100 episodes.”
