We Could Not Be More Hype About Linda Hamilton’s Terminator Return After CinemaCon

Sarah Connor is one of action cinema’s greatest heroines, as embodied by actress Linda Hamilton. While the series continued without her in subsequent Terminator sequels—and of course Terminator Genisys where Emilia Clarke took on the role (fellow GOT actress Lena Headey played the character on The Sarah Connor Chronicles television show)—the most compelling thing about the upcoming reboot/sequel Terminator: Dark Fate is Hamilton back in the role once more.

Much like the most recent Halloween film, Dark Fate will ignore everything after T2 and will simply continue Sarah Connor’s story from where we left off, with everything else being an alternate timeline. During CinemaCon, Hamilton brought up the … let’s just say mixed response to the other films by fans and critics alike.

“They’re very forgettable, aren’t they?” Hamilton said, reports IndieWire. “You start something, and you’re invested in the franchise, but somehow the characters that you care about weren’t there. Too many people, too many story points. So I think we’ve done a good job of narrowing down the focus again so it will echo the first two films.”

In a previous interview with Variety, Hamilton said that she initially turned down the offer to return to the Terminator franchise. “I gave it probably six weeks of intense thinking and consideration before deciding to do it. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to. I didn’t want it to look like a shameless money grab. I am living this quiet, lovely life that doesn’t involve being a celebrity, and you really have to think, do I really want to trade that in again for another 15 minutes?”

Hamilton has been playing smaller roles in genre shows like Lost GirlDefiance, and let’s not forget when she was the voice of Nemesis in the Hercules animated series. So, Hamilton has been working and doesn’t necessarily need to rejoin the series that made her a star, but we’re super glad she’s coming back—and so, apparently, were those at Cinema Con who got a sneak peek at some footage of Sarah Connor back in action.

Bonkers badass is enough for me at this moment. Just like I was excited to see Jamie Lee Curtis return for Halloween, I’m excited to see Linda Hamilton return and remind everyone why she’s one of the toughest ladies in action. Terminator: Dark Fate will be in theaters nationwide November 1.
