Things We Saw Today: Black Panther Is One of Only Four Films to Hit This Milestone

Recommended Videos

Black Panther smashed through a number of records in both advance ticket sales and its opening weekend. And now, in its second weekend, the film will pull in another approximately $102 million at the domestic box office. Only three other films have pulled in more than $100 million in their second weekend: Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($149 million), Jurassic World ($106.6 million), and The Avengers ($103 million).

Blockbuster films typically have a massive drop-off in their second week, which makes such a lucrative second week less likely. Black Panther had an approximately 49% decline from its opening weekend, compared to a Marvel movie average of around 53% and The Avengers‘ 45%. And after its massive first weekend, that was enough to keep the film over $100 million. (via Variety)
