So Who’s Performing at the Oscars This Year?

The musical performances are one of the biggest highlights of the Oscars. While viewers might be anxious to see whether their favorite films or actors win in their categories, the musical performances are always a delightful and lovely part of the evening. They allow us to relieve the emotional peaks of the year’s great films, like last year when we cheered as the young Auli’i Cravalho sang “How Far I’ll Go” from Moana. Sometimes they’re just nice interludes between speeches, and other times they make a powerful, unforgettable statement to the millions watching—the “Glory” performance that took viewers to Selma and the Edmund Pettus Bridge and the group of survivors that joined Lady Gaga for “Till It Happens to You” both come to mind.

So who’ll be taking the stage at the 90th Academy Awards? (If you think it’s an obvious answer, just remember that John Legend performed the La La Land medley last year and made us all wonder why he wasn’t given the lead role in the film.)

Show producers Michael De Luca and Jennifer Todd shared the list. The performances include Gael García Bernal, Natalia LaFourcade, and Miguel for Coco‘s “Remember Me”. Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez wrote the song for the animated film. Mary J. Blige will perform “Mighty River” from Mudbound, which she wrote with Raphael Saadiq and Taura Stinson (Blige is also nominated as a Best Supporting Actress). Common and Andra Day will grace the stage for “Stand Up For Something” from Marshall. Keala Settle will perform “This is Me”, the standout song from The Greatest Showman. Finally, Sufjan Stevens will perform “Mystery of Love”, the song he wrote for Call Me by Your Name.
