Star Trek: Discovery Renewed for S2, Because CBS Knows a Hit When It Sees One

Ain't No DISCO Like a Star Trek DISCO, 'Cause a Star Trek DISCO Don't Stop

I need to say how much I love that the official Starfleet-issued Discovery casual/exercise-wear says “DISCO” on it. Because every day in Starfleet is like a party! Also, it’s a way of shortening “Discovery.” But mostly the first thing, amirite? And we’ll have plenty more DISCO shirts and bonding between my new favorite Star Trek trio to look forward to (I instantly loved Burnham-Tilly-Tyler forever), because Star Trek: Discovery has been renewed for a second season!

CBS All Access is clearly happy enough with the numbers they’re receiving on their streaming service thanks to their flagship original series. Couple that with the fact that Discovery is already getting a lot of love online (and yeah, some haters, too. Wouldn’t be the Internet, or Star Trek fandom without haters), and honestly I would’ve been surprised if the show didn’t get a second season. It may have had a lot of trouble getting here, but now that it’s here, it’s awesome.

Marc DeBevoise, President and COO of CBS Interactive, seems to agree. As he told Deadline Hollywood, “In just six episodes, Star Trek: Discovery has driven subscriber growth, critical acclaim and huge global fan interest for the first premium version of this great franchise. This series has a remarkable creative team and cast who have demonstrated their ability to carry on the Star Trek legacy. We are extremely proud of what they’ve accomplished and are thrilled to be bringing fans a second season of this tremendous series.”

There’s no word on when a Season 2 would even air, especially considering the fact that this first season is being divided into two chapters. The first chapter has its final episode on November 12. Then, after a break, Discovery’s Season 1 will continue with six more episodes in January.

Star Trek is back for real, and I couldn’t be happier!
