Lin-Manuel Miranda has been absolutely non-stop with Hamilton, Moana, Mary Poppins Returns, and so much more, but he recently got some well-deserved time off. Of course, Miranda wasn’t idle in that time and decided to use his break to digitize all his childhood home movies.
The star calls himself “the Spielberg of my own mind,” and generously even shared some clips, showing off his creative, multi-talented young self. For instance, check out Miranda’s early filmography in the sci-fi genre—get this kid a spaceship and a story arc! He’s just been through a transdimensional vortex!

On The Late Late Show, Miranda brought James Corden one of these short films. Corden, as we all know, loves to unearth silly and embarrassing old videos of his guests, but Miranda is an earnest performer who loves everything and will himself volunteer this content himself.
This one in particular, features a 11 year old Miranda in Puerto Rico dancing to Weird Al Yankovic’s (also how cool is it that Weird Al and Miranda are friends now?) “Isle Thing” with his grandfather behind the camera and his grandmother throwing a shirt on him so he’s not dancing without a shirt. It’s a pure, wholesome delight.
Naturally, Corden wants to know if Miranda still has those “Isle Thing” dance moves. Do you even have to ask?
