Goodbye Christopher Robin Trailer Shows How a Beloved Bear Brought a Post-War Nation Joy

Recommended Videos

The film trailer for Goodbye Christopher Robin is here, and it’s full of warm colors that call back to the Hundred Acre Wood and childhood joy amidst tragedy.

Directed by Simon Curtis, the film stars Domhnall Gleeson and Margot Robbie as A. A. Milne and Dorothy “Daphne” de Sélincourt—the creator of the iconic Winnie the Pooh character and his wife. From Indiewire:

“Goodbye Christopher Robin tells the true story of A.A. Milne, the creator of Winnie the Pooh. His relationship with his son, Christopher, inspired the beloved character, which helped England find comfort after WWI. Robbie plays Milnes’ wife, Daphne, while Kelly McDonald stars as Christopher’s nanny, Robin.”

So far, the trailer has all the makings of an award season film. There’s a nation grappling with the aftermath of a devastating war, a deeper look at the origins of a fictional character beloved by millions (Finding Neverland, anyone?), and how art “helped us believe in the good things.” Along with a talented cast, Goodbye Christopher Robin is bound to be the talk of the town come autumn.

However, its notable that the wholesomeness of the trailer doesn’t go into the challenges Christopher faced in his latter life as a result of his father’s legacy, so we’ll have to wait and see how the film handles that particular conflict.

Goodbye Christopher Robin comes to theaters November 10. What do you think so far?
