Judge Away: I’m Actually Looking Forward to Boo 2! A Madea Halloween

Recommended Videos

I’m so excited for Boo 2! A Madea Halloween and I just can’t hide it. Judge me all you want but I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the first one and can’t wait to see what Tyle Perry and crew do this time around.

Now, I’m not the only person who saw the film in theaters. Domestically, it made more than $73 million on a budget of $20 million. The movie is about a 17-year-old named Tiffany whose father asks Madea to babysit her while he’s out of town. She enlists her friends to help prank the wise-cracking matriarch so she can sneak out and attend a Halloween party at a nearby college frat house. Chaos ensues.

It’s too early for plot details on the sequel but we can all count on Madea being at the center of it. After all, it’s in the name.

Okay, I understand why many people don’t want to see this film. Tyler Perry movies tend to shame sexually active women while preaching Christianity, cater to black stereotypes, and have included homophobic elements. I can’t argue with that and I will not. But for some reason, I still found A Madea Halloween enjoyable. Perhaps it’s because it didn’t feel as problematic as Perry’s other films have been. I think one can still enjoy a problematic thing while also addressing those very wrong elements. Hence why I didn’t hate Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and made it through eight seasons of The Vampire Diaries.

Generally speaking, though, enjoying things is hard.
