Congratulations are in order for Jordan Peele. His subversive horror film Get Out has crossed the 100 million mark, making him the first black director to gross that much in a feature debut according to MSN. The accomplishment is especially poignant given its biting commentary on President Obama’s alleged “post-racial America.” Knowing he also wrote the script and banked on a virtual unknown named Daniel Kaluuya (at least, outside his native UK) makes it all the more satisfying.
The story follows a man named Chris (Kaluuya) and his girlfriend, Rose (Girls star Allison Williams), who head upstate to meet her parents. When they seem overly accommodating, he passes it off as them being nervous about the interracial relationship. Soon, however, he begins to realize it’s more disturbing than that. The film also stars Betty Gabriel, Keith Stanfield, Bradley Whitford, Caleb Landry Jones, Stephen Root, and Catherine Keener.
