James Franco seems to be really good at popping up in places where you wouldn’t necessarily expect a James Franco to pop up. The latest place is in the upcoming installment of the Alien franchise, Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant.

As reported by AVPGalaxy, Franco has been cast in the role of Branson, husband to Katherine Waterston’s Daniels and captain of the Covenant. Apparently, his role only lasts the first ten minutes of the film, with only intermittent small appearances after that. Does that mean Branson doesn’t survive after the first ten minutes, and we only later see him in flashbacks or video footage? Does it mean he gets captured? Does it mean he gets scared off by this whole mission, says “Eff this!” and skeedadles, leaving Daniels to fend for herself? Who knows?

While we don’t know much about the plot of Alien: Covenant yet, we do know that it tells the story of the crew of a ship called the Covenant, which is on its way to what they think is an uncharted paradise of a planet. That planet turns out to be dark and dangerous, and inhabited by the only survivor of the ill-fated Prometheus expedition, the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender).

Franco’s Branson will also be appearing in viral footage that’s been filmed in connection to Covenant, perhaps something similar to the Peter Weyland at TED 2023 video that was shot starring Guy Pierce as Weyland, for the release of Prometheus.

In any case, it seems like we’ve got a lot of mysteries to look forward to unlocking when Alien: Covenant comes out in May 2017.

Can’t wait? Well, perhaps you can tide yourself over with these new Prometheus action figures from NECA! Well, actually they’re old action figures of Dr. Shaw (Noomi Rapace), Meredith Vickers (Charlize Theron), and Zombified Fifield (Sean Harris) that never made the toy shelves because Prometheus didn’t do as well as hoped.

With Covenant being highly-anticipated, however, these toys have come out of their slumber, and they include Michael Fassbender’s severed head as an accessory, for all your severed Michael Fassbender head needs.

The Alien franchise just keeps getting weirder and weirder.
