Hamilton for Hillary: Lin-Manuel Miranda and Renee Elise Goldsberry Sing the “Ten Election Commandments”

Tim Kaine in the membrane! TIM KAINE IN THE BRAIN!

Broadway geeks who are into politics got a two-fer last night as Broadway’s brightest stars got together at the St. James Theater in New York City to perform at a fundraiser for the future President of the United States the Me Being Totally Unbiased By Calling Her Democratic Presidential Candidate, Hillary Clinton. And it got real when Hamilton creator, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and the first Angelica Schuyler, Renee Elise Goldsberry took to the stage!

According to Pajiba, the “1,700 person event included performances from Billy Crystal, Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, and Neil Patrick Harris, who sang “Origin of Love” from Hedwig and the Angry Inch.” And, of course, Hamilton, which Clinton has quoted in speeches!

Modifying the song “Ten Duel Commandments,” in support of Hillary, Miranda and Goldsberry gave us a both a plan of action and a list of good reasons for how to get HRC into office. Miranda also came up with my now-favorite euphemism, “fiddling with his Twitter.” And I bet this is the first and only time that Tim Kaine ever hears his name set to a hip-hop beat and that, my friends, is priceless.

All hip-hopping and Hamilton-ing aside, if you live in the United States, make sure you’re registered to vote, and if you are, vote on November 8thnot just for President, but for all your other local races, laws and propositions, and anything else on the ballot where you live that day. Sure you could be apathetic and stay home, but do you really want to just give up your say when you don’t have to? Remember, no one can hear you “protest” if you keep your mouth shut.

It’s like pirating a show to “stick it to the man” when you’re mad it’s not available on every platform. That’s nice and all, but to the people trying to count who’s watching, they don’t know you exist, and they’ll cancel your show all together, thinking no one cares. Don’t let The Man cancel America. (OK, that metaphor got a little unwieldy, but you get the idea.) /soapbox
