Emma Watson Narrates “Hurdles,” a Stirring Short Video on the Accomplishments of Women Throughout History

Recommended Videos

Emma Watson lent her voice to a pretty darn inspiring short video titled “Hurdles” about the, well, hurdles that women have faced throughout history. Her narration, which was cut together with footage from the 1964 Olympic Women’s Hurdles event in Tokyo and backed by Sia’s “Chandelier,” is quite stirring as it lists the various things women were not allowed to do throughout history. Included among the things Watson mentions are the right to vote, the right to equal pay, and more.

The video doesn’t just focus on history, either. It does well in going over the many, many more hurdles that we’re each faced with today. In more than a few countries, child marriage and female genital mutilation continue to be a daily reality for the women living there. Sexual violence is a day-to-day horror that women everywhere face.

“Women and girls have always faced hurdles,” the video begins. “But that’s never stopped us. We’ve sacrificed, fought, campaigned, succeeded, been knocked back and succeeded again,” Watson said.

While women in history have done so much to bring us to where we are now, it’s important to remember that we still have many, many hurdles to face down. If we can move forward the same amount of dedication and fight as those who came before us, then there’s no limit to what we can all achieve within our very own lifetimes.
