Stephen Colbert and John Oliver Will Team Up for the Post-Mortem Show This Election Deserves

Recommended Videos

We all cried out in terror when this election season reared its ugly head and we had no Jon Stewart-helmed Daily Show or Colbert Report, but John Oliver’s Last Week Tonight, Samantha Bee’s Full Frontal, Larry Wilmore’s sadly canceled Nightly Show, and some of Colbert’s own Late Show segments have filled in that hole in our hearts/brains. We don’t yet know what will happen in November, but two of those voices of reason (and hilarity) will come together after the dust settles to help us make sense of it all.

Wow, That Was Weird: A Post-Election Evening with Stephen Colbert and John Oliver, the event’s actual title, will take place on November 19 at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. Sadly, that’s over a week after election day (November 8, which I really hope you know by now—seriously, please vote), so we’ll be left in relative darkness (or maybe actual darkness, depending on the outcome) for a bit. Hey, I’m sure Oliver and Colbert will need some processing time before they can attend to the rest of us. You put your own oxygen mask on first in an airplane emergency, you know.

Outside of how hilarious and/or depressing it will surely be, we don’t know much else about what the live event will be like, as the matter-of-fact description simply bills it as

a hilarious exchange on everything from their comic influences to the past political season. Wow, That Was Weird: A Post-Election Evening with Stephen Colbert and John Oliver features the pair onstage, having fun over the November election, which will have ended.

Yes, this election will someday, actually end. For real. If you want to see it deconstructed in person, and you’re willing to go to New Jersey, tickets go on sale to the general public on September 23. (Ticketmaster says, “Proceeds from this event benefit The Montclair Film Festival, New Jersey’s leading film non-profit.”)
