It’s Labor Day weekend, and though we’re all certainly familiar with the classic rule that bans the wearing of white from this point onward–maybe we should start generating some more rules around this oft-neglected holiday.

Thankfully, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver has a few suggestions as to how we can put our best foot forward for future Labor Day celebrations in this new web exclusive clip. One of them hilariously involves referring to your child’s birthday as a “Labor Day” so that you can, according to Oliver, make the holiday all about yourself instead.

If you’re attached to the act of winking or feigning polite interest in boring topics of conversation, these rules may not be for you. For those of us who would prefer to be brutally honest regarding whether or not we find someone’s story fascinating—well, these new Labor Day rules are exactly what we’ve been waiting for.

Are there any rules you’re planning on implementing after Labor Day?
