Now let's just all agree on the abbreviation for this thing. DSC? ST...D?

Not only is there a brand new ship in the Star Trek universe that’s been built to carry on a new mission, but it also has a brand new name: Discovery. More details emerged on Bryan Fuller’s new Star Trek television series for CBS as part of the Star Trek 50th anniversary panel at San Diego Comic-Con yesterday, where Fuller served as moderator to five panelists who represented each of the previous Star Trek television shows that have aired to date.

While the full panel hasn’t been made available yet, a first look at Star Trek: Discovery (the official name of the new show) was provided to panel attendees and then quickly released online under the show’s new Twitter account:

Fuller confirmed one thing that we already knew per earlier interviews; the first season will consist of 13 episodes and will tell one story that stretches across the whole thing. So far, Fuller said, six of the 13 episodes are already in the can, writing-wise.

So where does Discovery fit in? Well, according to Fuller it’ll be part of the Prime, or main timeline–which includes everything save the latest trio of films, since they’re a part of their own separate universe. We don’t know exactly when Discovery will take place in the Prime timeline–whether it’ll be set years in the future from Voyager or if it’ll happen even before Enterprise.

And if the design of the U.S.S. Discovery looks familiar, that’s because it might be based on a Ralph McQuarrie design for the Enterprise from the 1970s. However, Fuller admitted at a separate Trek press conference after that panel that it’s inspired “to a point that we can’t legally comment on it until [our legal team] figures out some things.”

In the meantime, the only part we might have to agree on as fans is how to abbreviate this show. Should it be DSC? ST…D?
