We’ve been excited about Overwatch‘s new hero, Ana, since she was announced and instantly became everyone’s new favorite character. Finally, developer Blizzard put out a patch today that introduced Ana to all PC players and brought with it some balance changes for the multiplayer online shooter.
Ana was already available to those involved in Blizzard’s Public Test Realm program, but now everyone can experience the joy of snipe-healing their teammates—except for players on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It’s unknown how long console players will have to wait to get their version of the patch along with Ana, but I can’t imagine Blizzard will want to leave them hanging for long without the balance changes made to characters along with some global rules changes.
Some characters that were lagging behind, like D.Va and Zenyatta, received improvements to entice players to use them more, and others were fine-tuned to either slightly boost or lower the effectiveness of certain aspects. Developer’s notes explain the goal of the character changes in greater detail if you need to know how they’re going to affect your game. The patch also contains bugfixes and global changes such as tweaking overtime and limiting Competitive Play to one instance of each hero per team.
Here’s a bit more about Ana before you jump in and try her out: “Ana’s primary weapon is her Biotic Rifle, which fires long-range darts that can restore the health of her allies or deal ongoing damage to her enemies. Meanwhile, her Biotic Grenade is perfect for a close-quarters clash, simultaneously healing teammates and injuring foes caught in its small area of effect. (Affected allies will also receive a temporary increase to all incoming healing, while affected enemies can’t be healed for a few moments.) And if the battle starts to get out of hand, Ana’s sidearm can fire a Sleep Dart, knocking her adversaries unconscious.
Plus, Ana’s ultimate ability, Nano Boost, empowers one of her teammates, granting faster movement, increased damage, and resistance to enemy attacks.”
