Justice League details have been pouring out lately even though the movie’s release is almost a year and a half away, probably because the DC movie universe needs something to change the conversation after Batman v Superman. (Around here, we’d be much more distracted by more Wonder Woman news, since that movie’s coming a bit sooner, but we’ll take what we can get.)
As suggested by Batman v Superman—and as it should be—Wonder Woman herself will feature prominently in Justice League as she and Batman form the eponymous team of heroes to fight off an evil of massive proportions (as told by a synopsis released by ScreenRant, along with an official logo):
“Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
Directed by Zack Snyder, this marks the big screen debut of the Justice League, featuring an all-star lineup: Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller and Ray Fisher.”
It’s also been revealed that this “newly awakened threat” is Steppenwolf, seemingly confirming the identity of the creature in a deleted scene released online shortly after Batman v Superman‘s release. Many fans had assumed the Justice League villain would be Darkseid, and they weren’t far off, considering Steppenwolf is one of Darkseid’s lieutenants and would likely take the lead in an invasion. Maybe we’ll get more context if the deleted scene is part of the R-rated “Ultimate Edition” that’s set for a one-night theater event (June 27) and home video release.
