Nintendo just unveiled its latest installment in the Legend of Zelda franchise: Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Up front: this trailer is straight up gorgeous. The game shows some fairly solid Studio Ghibli-like influences in its art style, with a slight cel-shading effect blended together with some near-photo-realistic images. It gives the game a very fun cartoony edge while still maintaining a bit of the game’s gravitas and jaw-dropping scale.
Some fun environmental effects were shown, including Link rolling a boulder down a hill to take on some enemies in a valley below. Link’s also taken up climbing as well, as there was a fairly extended sequence that showed him climbing both mountains and buildings. They also introduced an interesting weapon for Link: a long spear that he was using to fight a monster on a wooden bridge. It looked like a lot of fun to use, for sure.
We didn’t get a look at too many other things story-wise, so we’ll just have to wait patiently for that.
