New Trailer For Disney’s The BFG Proves That Even The Smallest Can Be Brave

When we were given a sneak peek at the first trailer for The BFG last month, it looked like a winning combination of three powerhouses in storytelling–Roald Dahl, Disney and Steven Spielberg–and now that the film has officially premiered at the Cannes Film Festival we’ve been given a more in-depth look at the Big Friendly Giant himself (who is most certainly not a cannibal–or, as he says it, a “canniabal”).

The BFG is one of those Roald Dahl novels that I always read but never developed an appreciation for until later on. While this is only the latest in Hollywood’s adaptations of Dahl’s works (I’d argue that some have been more successful than others, but on the whole they’re all pretty fun to watch) it’s one of those that I have a feeling I’m going to get the most emotional over.

One of my favorite parts of this trailer is how whimsical and adorable Mark Rylance looks as the BFG and the sweetness of his relationship with the young girl Sophie. I’m also loving the fact that she professes she isn’t scared in the face of danger even though the giant twice her size is! And there’s just enough CGI happening here to really add to the scope and magic a film like this really requires.

The BFG will be released in the U.S. on July 1 of this year.
