Megan Fox’s New Dream Role Is Indiana Jones

Our new Lara Croft may have only just been announced–but if there’s one thing that Hollywood always needs more of, it’s kickass female characters hunting down rarities and finding hidden archaeological treasures, right? And although there aren’t many ladies as famous as Lara Croft, there’s one actress who thinks a classic franchise could do with a genderswap reboot.

In an interview with GameSpot to promote her upcoming role in the mobile video game Stormfall, actress Megan Fox said that although playing the famous Tomb Raider had always been her number-one choice in terms of dream parts based on video game characters, she has a backup plan now that Alicia Vikander has been cast in the reboot movie:

I’ve always wanted to do Tomb Raider, but it’s been done–and very well. So I guess I’d go with Indiana Jones, since I always loved how fun and free-spirited Indiana is. He’s an adventurous rogue archaeologist who barely escapes death chasing down treasures among the earth’s most mysterious sites. What’s not to love?

We here at TMS are all in favor of genderswapped casting–we shared some of our dream actresses for a female James Bond a while back–and while Harrison Ford officially signing on for Indiana Jones 5 means that Fox may have missed out on another chance to play one of her dream roles, there’s no reason why she couldn’t play a brand-new rogue archaeologist character in an upcoming film. Indy and Lara Croft may have dominated that genre for the past several decades, but how about passing the torch (figuratively and literally, looking for treasures in caves can be a dark business) to a new franchise?

Mostly, I think Megan Fox is a continually underrated actress–her recent stint on New Girl during Zooey Deschanel’s maternity leave definitely proved she’s got some big comedic chops–and I’d love to see her in a movie that doesn’t relegate her part to sidekick or sidepiece. And hey, just because she doesn’t get to play Lara Croft doesn’t mean she couldn’t have some role in the new Tomb Raider flick–if the film decides to base things off the game’s success, I’d love to see her play a friend of Lara’s.
