What’s This? What’s This? A Tim Burton-Themed Bar Is Opening This Month in New York

Shake shake shaken, not stirred.

New York already has some geeky watering holes, like The Way Station or Lovecraft, but later this month nerds will have another option on the list of cool places to get their revels on: Beetle House, a Tim Burton-inspired bar complete with themed food and drinks and a decidedly spoopy atmosphere.

Beetle House is the creation of Zach Neil & Brian Link, who opened a Will Ferrell-themed bar, Stay Classy, last October. The new bar will feature drinks and food based off Tim Burton films (the owners promise “all meat sourced locally from 100% innocent humans captured wild on the streets of NYC”). A quick perusal of the menu reveals items like the “This Is Halloween!” (Pumpkin Liqueur, cinnamon liqueur, apple liqueur, apple cider, ginger beer, garnished with a lime), the “We Come In Peace” (Stoli salted caramel vodka, Rum chata, cream, caramel swirl salted rim), and the Edward Burger Hands (pretty much sounds like a regular burger to me).

Beetle House will be located on East 6th street between 1st and 2nd Ave. It’s not set to officially open until late April, but fans can text “preview” to 646-510-4786 for more information. Dining will be by reservation only, although, if recent unfortunate events have made it impossible for you to leave your home, certain menu items will be available via delivery.

I think it’s pretty cool that the hospitality industry is beginning to recognize the money-making potential of appealing to certain fandoms. I love bars like The Way Station because they understand that it’s more fun to drink a “Shirley Temple of Doom” than it just a spiked Shirley Temple, or to go to the bathroom in a toilet-equipped TARDIS rather than a regular restroom. The end result might be the same as it is in a regular bar, but getting there is a lot more fun. Considering Beetle House has the considerable power of nostalgia on its side in as well, I expect it to be very successful.
