We Were Pretty Darn Close to Seeing Harley’s Jester Outfit in Suicide Squad

Believe it or not, we were pretty close to catching a court jester-ed out Margot Robbie/Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad. No, seriously! In an interview with HelloGiggles, Robbie mentioned the many different costume variations they tried out for Harley, and explained what might be in store for those costumes later.

Robbie said:

Oh, we tried on every variation of the costume. I cannot emphasize enough how many outfits, and how many variations of the Harley Quinn costume we tried. We tried the court jester costume, we tried the corset and skirt, we tried leather pants, we tried literally every type of costume possible for her. I really love where we ended up. And who knows, maybe in the sequels we’ll go with the court jester one. I think there’s a world of possibilities.

You may remember that Paul Dini, one of the co-creators behind Harley Quinn, has already gone on record saying that Harley’s outfit in Suicide Squad “works fine” given the world in which the movie is set. It would, after all, seem a bit odd to have all this “nitty gritty” action-y stuff and then have Harley rolling around in a cartoon-y jester’s outfit, right?

Actually, I take that back. If I were a villain and a bunch of action stereotypes rolled up on me, threatening to kill me, that’d be what pretty much what I expected. But if suddenly those stereotypes parted and someone dressed in a court jester costume stepped forward… I’d be sweating bullets.
