I hadn’t heard about this film before but the team is stacked (but also very, very, very male dominated). Phil Lord and Christopher Miller of The Lego Movie are among the producers, with Nicholas Stoller (Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Neighbors) and Doug Sweetland (who worked as an animator on films like Toy Story, Finding Nemo) directing. Kelsey Grammer voices Hunter, who you see in the announcement trailer, but the film follows Andy Samberg as the top delivery stork, Junior. Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele are also on the cast.
Here’s the synopsis for the movie (which is a bit different from the trailer):
Storks deliver babies… or at least they used to. Now they deliver packages for global internet giant Cornerstore.com. Junior, the company’s top delivery stork, is about to be promoted when he accidentally activates the Baby Making Machine, producing an adorable and wholly unauthorized baby girl. Desperate to deliver this bundle of trouble before the boss gets wise, Junior and his friend Tulip, the only human on Stork Mountain, race to make their first-ever baby drop – in a wild and revealing journey that could make more than one family whole and restore the storks’ true mission in the world.
The plot reminds me a bit of Monsters Inc. (which Sweetland was directing animator for). I liked Partly Cloudy‘s adaptation of the stork myth, but the Baby Making Machine is the stuff of nightmares (with some frightening implications?). Babies are delicate, y’all. Still, the voice acting team looks awesome so I might see this just based those names. What did you think about the Storks trailer?
