Neil deGrasse Tyson “Ruins” The Good Dinosaur With His Smarts, Again

Is it possible to "ruin" the premise of Pixar's The Good Dinosaur? The co-existence of humans and dinosaurs may appear in, er, some textbooks -- but most folks know this film's premise holds no water. Here's Neil deGrasse Tyson's explanation as to why this film makes no scientific sense.

Is it possible to “ruin” the premise of Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur? The co-existence of humans and dinosaurs may appear in, er, some textbooks — but most folks know this film’s premise holds no water. In this video, Neil deGrasse Tyson invites us all to pretend, for a moment, that the dinosaurs didn’t die out before humanity emerged — and then he explains why the two species still wouldn’t look the way they do in this film.

Here’s the breaks: even if the dinosaurs hadn’t died out, it’s very unlikely that humans would have evolved in the same way. The whole history of our planet would’ve looked quite different, had mountain-sized dinos continued to tromp around unimpeded by incoming meteors.

Oh — and before you get mad at Neil for “ruining” the movie, just remember that for him, these scientific inaccuracies ruin his experience! These scientific explanations are his way of having fun. And learning is fun, too, right?
