Underworld 5 Begins Production; Kate Beckinsale’s Still Starring as Selene

Recommended Videos

The Underworld films got middling reviews at the time, but they remain a cult favorite among goths and/or fans of Kate Beckinsale brooding in a leather trenchcoat and slicing up baddies. Somehow, this deliciously corny piece of cyber-noire cinema has had multiple follow-ups — and now, our heroine will star in a fifth installment in the franchise. By the way, as ’90s as these films may seem to us now, they all came out in the aughts. Leather lives forever. You can try to kill these fashions, but they’ll always come back.

Everyone seems surprised that Kate Beckinsale keeps doing more of these; I believe there was only one Underworld in which she didn’t star, and currently she’s on tap to reprise her role of Selene in Underworld 5 (the film shooting currently) and even Underworld 6 after that. Is it really such a surprise that Beckinsale’s still doing these, though? They may not get great reviews, but they look like delightful fun to take part in.

Anyway, if you never got around to watching them all, the Underworld series could make for great background viewing during a Halloween party. Anyone got any Underworld drinking games and/or Halloween candy-eating games to recommend as accompaniment?
