Did you hear about DC’s planned half-hour, single-camera comedy Powerless and think, “I’m really more of a Marvel fan”?
Well, today’s your lucky day, because Marvel’s cooking up their own twist on the underpowered-humans-living-among-superheroes concept. It’s called Damage Control, and it’s about a crew of folks who have to deal with organizational and bureaucratic mishaps that happen in the world of superheroes, as Deadline put it: “returning lost ray guns to their rightful owners, help to reschedule a wedding venue after it has been vaporized in a superhero battle,” and so on.
Powerless, you may recall, is about characters who work in an insurance company office that exists in the DC universe. So, they have to deal with superhero-related insurance claims. It’ll probably be pretty different. Probably.
One main difference between the two is that Damage Control — which Ben Karlin (The Daily Show, Modern Family) will be developing and adapting for TV — takes its inspiration from the comic book series of the same name from the late ’80s. Powerless isn’t based on anything, as far as I know, so writer and executive producer Ben Queen will have to be creative.
