Let’s all be honest: We’re here for illustrated Goldblum.
Sadly, that’s probably not what we’re going to get. Titan Comics revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that they’re putting together a comic to bridge the gap between Independence Day and its 2016 sequel, but the comic will go in a bit of a different direction than the movies. According to Titan, the sequel prequel will be “a rich psychological prison drama,” so don’t expect the original cast to show up.
Titan Comics editor Steve White added that the book will be, “a golden opportunity to segue nicely into next year’s blockbuster sequel by taking the mythos of the original and maybe adding a little darkness to it.”
So it sounds like the comic will show the societal impacts of the first alien invasion through a microcosm, which could be a good way to fill in the 20-year story gap that accompanies the 20-year real-life gap between the movies.
