Let’s Talk About Ernie Hudson Being in the New Ghostbusters

"Ray, when someone asks you to be in a movie, you say 'YES!'"

Time to welcome Ernie Hudson to the new Ghostbusters franchise.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hudson is now officially set to appear in the upcoming Paul Feig Ghostbusters film (his co-stars,  Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd, were previously attached). In fact, he was “seen on the film’s set on the last day of shooting on Saturday.”

At this point, we don’t know if he’s playing Winston or another new character entirely, but I’m not sure that’s what I’m concerned about right now. As much as it’s great to see the old gang back to usher the new all-girl gang into the game, a part of me can’t help but feel kinda weird about Hudson getting to be in this movie after all those comments he made and took back about how this reboot and its female focus was a bad thing. I mean, the man said, “I hope that if they go that way at least [the actresses] be funny, and if they’re not funny, at least hopefully it’ll be sexy.” Can you imagine being Melissa, Kristen, Kate and/or Leslie having to act with him after hearing that?

At the very least, we know that the lady-filled Ghostbusters crew will show Hudson that women are indeed funny and shouldn’t be questioned as such. And we have to trust that Paul Feig, who has defended his version fiercely, wouldn’t bring him on board unless he felt it was the right choice, right?

How are you feeling about this, TMS-ers? Do you think this is, to quote Hudson’s initial comments, “a bad idea”? Or do you think that Hudson should be in the film? Because as someone who loves the original films, but really can’t stand what Hudson said, I’m feeling conflicted.
