Syfy’s Newest Series Has The Most Ridiculous/Wonderful Premise I’ve Ever Heard

Syfy knows that today’s intelligent TV viewer has diverse interests (the paranormal, swords, men who look good in a deerstalker). But why should modern consumers need to watch more than one show to satisfy all of our passions? Are we animals? Thankfully, Syfy is flipping the bird to restraint once again: they’ve acquired the rights to Five Ghosts.

Originally a beloved comic series by Frank J. Barbiere and Chris Mooneyham, Image Comics’ Five Ghosts was optioned by Universal Cable Productions back in July and has now been picked up by Syfy. Ghosts focuses on a 1930s-era treasure hunter possessed by the “literary ghosts” of Merlin, Robin Hood, Sherlock Holmes, Musashi, and Dracula; as more proof that this show will be a mish-mosh of limitless wackiness, the pilot will be written by Evan Daugherty (Snow White and the Huntsman). [Editor’s note: Also Divergent and last summer’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.]

What do you guys think of Syfy’s newest acquisition? Judging from the comic’s reputation, Five Ghosts the show definitely has some rich material to draw from–unlike the Robin Hood pitch we wrote about yesterday, Ghosts‘ premise sounds like it could maybe even sustain a shared-universe type franchise.

Regardless, considering Syfy has managed to built a reputation on shark tornadoes alone, I’m excited to see what they’ll do with these ghosties. Let the fancasting begin!
