Start Writing: Legendary Entertainment & YouTube Invite You To Scare Guillermo Del Toro This Halloween

But when will there be a contest for my giant robot movie?

In celebration of Halloween and his upcoming project Crimson Peak, Guillermo del Toro is partnering with Legendary Entertainment and Youtube (the scariest streaming service of them all!) to provide a great opportunity for aspiring scream mongers. Here’s the filmmaker himself explaining the motivation behind his Halloween horror short contest:

Unfortunately, qualifications for entry are a little stricter than one might hope: eligible participants must have their own Youtube channel with a 10,000 follower minimum, and be able to film their monsterpieces at “Youtube Spaces,” production studios owned by the streaming service in L.A., London, Tokyo, and New York. The sets provided by Youtube will all be inspired by del Toro’s iconic imagery, and include dingy manor rooms (see above), an abandoned attic, and a “haunted garden.”

As master of ceremonies, Guillermo will then select the best videos from each region and provide a rough-cut consultation to the filmmakers. Entries will be streamed from the 21st through Halloween on both the competitor’s channels and the official Youtube Spaces channel, and the overall winner will work with Legendary to, in the words of the press release, “realize the full potential of their idea.”

If you’re already qualified to enter, this contest sounds full of incredible resources to help maximize your creepy potential (a consultation with del Toro? Whut??). Personally, I’m excited to watch all of the submissions come October. May the Aaaaaah!s be ever in your favor, competitors!
